Senior Advice: Make the Future Yours

Decisions are difficult and we all have to make them. The most important decisions I’ve had to make in my life so far are centered around my future. What do I want? Where do I see myself? What is my end goal? These questions compose are an endless list that you don’t have time for. But make time for the words I’m about to tell you.

Make sure that no matter where you end up—college, trade school or getting a very lucky break athletically—that you are happy. Make sure that in your heart you know what you chose is right for you and that it will ultimately lead you to where you want to end up. You owe it to yourself after working so hard throughout these past four years.

Throughout your whole life, someone has been with you to guide you, and someone is probably guiding you through deciding your future now. But don’t let them change what you want and how you see your future. Their opinion might mean the world to you, but you are the only person who knows what is good for you. You know what you need to succeed. Any path you decide to take will lead you to success, as long as you’re happy.

Happiness is success in itself. Always remember that the people who love you and support you want to see you thrive. Unfortunately, these same people may feel like the only way for you to thrive is the way they planned your life for you. Don’t let their vision ruin the vision you have for yourself. Listen to what others have to say and see if their words have logic. If they don’t make sense to you, then your heart is telling you that their life plan for you is not the one you have for yourself.

So now I pose the most important question: What do you want? While answering this question, remember that you have control over your life—choose your path and make the future yours.
