An Exciting Time for Rick Riordan Fans
We all thought Percy Jackson was over in 2009 when the final installment of the beloved series was released. Then, one year later, a blessing from the gods came to us – the first book of the spin-off series, The Heroes of Olympus. The Lost Hero follows not Percy, the hero fans know and love, but Jason, an amnesic Roman demigod who must find his way home with the help of Camp Half-Blood (a Greek training camp for demigods, mentioned in Percy Jackson and the Olympians).
The same year, Percy author Rick Riordan released a new trilogy, The Kane Chronicles, into the greedy clutches of his fans. Following the mythology path, these books explore the Egyptian gods and the magic of the pharaohs. Quickly, Carter and Sadie Kane became a big hit, prompting Riordan to write a crossover trilogy with the Percy Jackson books.
With all the excitement over the newly released books, one would think Riordan would stop there. However, more was to come. Percy Jackson’s Greek Gods and Percy Jackson’s Greek Heroes are similar to school textbooks in that they provide information about Greek mythology, but the classic stories are told with the humor and sarcasm that only Percy can provide.
In 2014, the last Heroes of Olympus book was published, devastating faithful readers. Reality set in, and we seemed to come to terms with the fact that the era of Percy Jackson really was over. But as we should know from the countless cliffhangers, Rick Riordan likes to surprise us. Turns out, he just can’t stay away from Greek mythology, as he is currently writing The Trials of Apollo, following the god Apollo through human life after Zeus punishes him by stripping him of his godhood. The series will be closely followed by Demigods & Magicians, supposedly a collection of short stories about Percy, Annabeth (his long-time companion), Carter, and Sadie.
You can purchase Demigods & Magicians starting in April 2016.
