Tragic Shooting Occurs in San Bernardino

On Wednesday, December 2, police were called to the bloody scene of a holiday party in San Bernadino gone horribly wrong. A married couple, possibly inspired in part by ISIS, injured about 21 people and murdered 14 more.

The shooting took place at a holiday party in the Inland Regional Center celebrating county health workers in San Bernadino, California, which is about 60 miles from Los Angeles. U.S.-born Syed Rizwan Farook, aged 28, and his Pakistani-native wife Tashfeen Malik, 29, angrily left the party midway according to several witnesses. They then returned around 11 a.m. sheathed in black masks and tactical gear and armed with several guns and pistols. The couple fled the scene when authorities arrived.

About four hours later, police chased the suspects, who were driving a black van. Eventually, the chase spilled into the streets of San Bernardino, where the authorities and the couple exchanged gunfire. After some time both suspects were dead, and luckily only one officer was injured, and he is expected to make a full recovery.

Though their exact motives for the act of terror is unclear, authorities have linked the attack to ISIS. The two were not found to be associated with ISIS, but some say they may have been inspired by ISIS attacks. If Wednesday’s mass shooting proves to be the work of Islamic militants, it would mark the deadliest of such attacks since 9/11.

Victims ranged from ages 26-to-60, were mothers and fathers, and those who emigrated to America from Iran or Vietnam to escape religious persecution. The hearts and prayers of people from across the world go out to the victims and families affected by this egregious attack.
