The First Rule of Fight Club Is: You Can Talk About Fight Club?
In the instant a fight starts, a response kicks in called fight-or-flight mode. In this specific instance, the New York State Assembly chose the fight response. As of Tuesday, March 22, 2016, mixed martial arts (MMA) is now trying to be legalized in New York State and was supported by Governor Andrew Cuomo.
MMA is a combination of karate, wrestling, boxing, kickboxing, judo, Vale Tudo, Muay Thai, Brazilian ju-jitsu, and other fighting styles. This combination of mixed styles allows for a chaotic fight with minimal to no rules. The fighters sustain a lot of injuries because of all of mixture of styles. The government wants a clean fight so the “Athletic Commission, which regulates professional boxing” will provide the fighters “with drug testing, officials, and ringside doctors.”
This sport not only increases domestic violence in the home but is also potentially deadly for the fighters. MMA entails two strong people who stand in a cage with minimal to no equipment with basically no rules. They fight until a fighter loses, which can be in a number of ways. Matches can be lost by decision, disqualification, forfeit, knockout (KO), no contest, and a Technical Knockout (TKO). Decision is when the fight lasts all round and three judges decide the winner. Disqualification happens when a fighter is given three warnings, and after doing three illegal moves, is disqualified. Forfeit is when a fighter can announce a forfeit before a match begins if he’s injured. Knockout is when a fighter loses consciousness thanks to his opponent’s strikes. No contest is when both fighters violate the rules, or if a fighter is injured by an unintentional illegal action. No contest is rarely called in MMA fights. Submission is when one fighter achieves a submission hold and the fighter trapped in the hold can call defeat by tapping out on his opponent’s body or the mat, or by making a verbal announcement. Some defeated fighters fail to tap out and become incapacitated. In such cases, the referee calls an end to the fight. Technical knockout is when a fight is ended by the referee, doctor, or fighter’s corner.
If MMA is legalized, the phrase “First rule of Fight Club is: You don’t talk about Fight Club” certainly won’t be used anymore.
