Walt Whitman High School’s Dani Probst and Sara Duffy Win Section XI Doubles Badminton Championship

Walt Whitman High School’s Dani Probst and Sara Duffy Win Section XI Doubles Badminton Championship
Newsday

DIX HILLS, N.Y. – On May 15th, Walt Whitman’s girls doubles badminton players Dani Probst and Sara Duffy won their match against Commack at Half Hollow Hills East High School, making them the winners of Suffolk County girl’s double championship.

The final scores of the match were 21-18 and 21-16. Considering their immense effort throughout the season, the doubles crown was well-deserved for  Sr. Probst and Jr. Duffy.

“Being county champions was never something either of us even thought about,” Duffy said in an interview. “I was an exhibition player last year, meaning my games didn’t count towards the score, and Dani was 5th singles, the last singles to count towards the match, so I didn’t even think we would be playing 1st anything, especially not doubles.”

Covering the court and maintaining strong serves were just two of the skills that helped Probst and Duffy secure the title of Section XI champions. When asked about their favorite highlight of the game, Duffy said:

“My favorite highlight was when I dove for the birdie and we got the point but it was just funny to see someone dive during badminton, so much so that the other team asked if we played volleyball– which we do.”

Though Probst is a graduating senior, Duffy is excited for what is to come in her final year of playing Varsity Badminton at Whitman. While discussing her expectations for herself for next season, Duffy said:

“Next year I definitely think it’s possible to win another championship, although it wouldn’t be with Dani. Lindsay Alms would most likely be my partner next year and I think she’s fully capable of winning it next year, either by herself or possibly with me. I also think our team will go far because we always learn to have fun and show up as much as possible, which really does us help win games.”

It’s undeniable that Probst and Duffy’s success should be celebrated by all Wildcats at Whitman. Congratulations girls!
