In Memory of Maggie Rosales

In+Memory+of+Maggie+Rosales

Last week marked a year since the tragic passing of Whitman senior Maggie Rosales. Several of Maggie’s classmates wished to commemorate their beloved friend through poetry. You can read the poems below:

In Memories…

Erick Pacheco

It’s been a year since you’ve been gone

It’s weird,

because it only feels like

yesterday.

We all remember the

day you left us for a better place.

But it brings us to tears knowing

you left too early. We cry and

become upset, thinking of what

you left for us.

You taught others

many things.

To be happy.

To always smile

though thick

and thin.

We wish we could see you again.

To hug you.

We believe in

angels.

Because you’re by our side,

looking down on us.

Laughter is too often taken for granted

Maybe we didn’t appreciate your joyful spirit enough

Beauty can be presented in so many forms

You were not only beautiful on the outside,

as your heart held your true beauty

A dark room would light up when you walked in

A poor person became rich with the value of your friendship

You could turn hatred into genuine love

All I remember are jokes, great conversations, and your unforgettable smile

This town will never be the same

I’ve walked these streets my entire life

I pass by Leyden and get filled with sad thoughts

I ask God why he couldn’t bring you home

I realize that you are now home

Becoming our angel and protector

Seeing your grave brought me inspiration

We will make it for you

because you would want us to keep on smiling

Forever in our mind, hearts, and soul

We will always love you, Margarita Rosales.

A friendship of entrusting
A friendship I’ll never regret
A friendship that meant everything
A friendship I’ll never forget

You made the world shine
When the sun had set
You made the people kind
When the world was upset

You were truly a gift
Whether from God or not
You always gave a lift
To a person on the spot

Thank you for being you
In my heart you are engraved
If only you knew
How much we wanted you to stay

Rest in the Heavens, Kitty
