This past Thursday, our Girls Leaders Organization hosted its 66th annual Girls Sports Night. The event consisted of cheer, calisthenics, dodgeball, volleyball, tug of war, an underclassmen relay, and musical chairs for the Class of 2016 to compete in.

The girls have been working since December organizing teams, routines, and costumes. Both Maroon and White Cali and Cheer worked hard Tuesdays-Fridays after school learning their moves for this special night.

Maroon Cheer won both the fight and welcome cheers while White won calisthenics. “It was a lot of hard work,” said junior Ally Wirth, White Cali Captain, “but in the end it paid off and the big night was lots of fun!”

Hannah Stasko, a sophomore on White Cheer was disappointed with her team’s outcome but still optimistic, claiming, “We didn’t win but it was still a lot of fun and I can’t wait for redemption next year.” With the calisthenics win and victory in the sporting events, White won Girls Sports Night overall.

Another important moment of the night was the revealing of next year’s Girls Leader Organization’s Cabinet. Caroline Tomaselli and Emily Dickson, both White Calisthenics Captains, were selected to be next year’s Co-Vice Presidents. Kelsey McDonald, another White Calisthenics captain, will replace Ariel Khatchatourian. She explained, “It is an honor to have been chosen to lead this organization and I am very excited to see what next year will hold.”

Watching girls at Whitman compete with such sportsmanship is always a fun time. If you didn’t attend this year, make sure you do next year. Congratulations to all for their hard work and a special thank you to Ms. Mahoney for successfully organizing the event year-after-year.
