“You’re Fired”

It is not an uncommon practice in the TV business for a show’s host to be replaced by someone else, and such is the fate for The Celebrity Apprentice. For the first time in its decade-long history, Donald Trump will not host the reality/game show. During Trump’s initial bid for election, NBC decided to let go of the long-time host of this TV classic, after his unseemly comments about immigrants. Trump’s catchphrase, “You’re fired,” did not seem so amusing when it was turned on him.
After the turbulent and frequently offensive political campaign that Trump led, The Celebrity Apprentice fans are divided on the polarizing subject of his departure. In one camp, there are the people who are miserable to see him leave. After fourteen seasons with him, they have become so attached that they refuse to watch the show if he is absent. In the opposing camp are the viewers who are overjoyed that he has been dismissed. They are loathed to give attention to anything he is associated with and are glad to see the show’s new direction. However, outside of either faction lies a large portion of The Celebrity Apprentice lovers that shares both sides’ views. Sophomore Jackson Lin perfectly encapsulates this opinion, declaring Trump’s departure is the “end of an era,” but he will not be missed after “how the election went.”
Nevertheless, not all audience members are hung up on the past; thousands are eagerly awaiting the new season, beginning in January. Joseph VanGostein, an avid fan, is “apprehensive” about all the upcoming changes (the host and location) but has faith that “the heart of the show will prevail.” With Arnold Schwarzenegger set to run the show, producers anticipate an influx of new viewers. That certainly seems to be the case, as showcased by two Whitman individuals. Matthew Ruiz couldn’t contain his excitement about the subject, proclaiming that Schwarzenegger “is [his] role model.” Although previously unaware of the news, business teacher Mr. Steve Bilello made plans to “look into it.”
In the upcoming year, the fifteenth season will premiere, for better or for worse. Hopefully, all the alterations will revitalize the show and turn out the best season to date. It is uncertain how the crowds will react to the differences, but one thing is clear: with the dismissal of Donald Trump, the show’s iconic host, The Celebrity Apprentice will never be the same.
