It’s a new year, and you know what that means– new cafeteria! Whitman’s old, simpler south cafe has been transformed into a corner for foods and snacks of all kinds. Salads and sandwiches and shakes have people constantly ready to scan their ID. But it’s time to hear students’ perspectives about the changes made to Whitman’s eatery.
Notably, many do agree that the renovations were a major success. In fact, Junior Alex Gillet says, “I really like the renovations. It gives a more lively atmosphere to the cafeteria.” And Senior Marisa Castillo says, “I love the renovations. I think it looks so cool, it reminds me of an airport.”
However, opinions about the cafeteria’s actual food options are a little more mixed. Gillet continued by saying, “As for food, I never really found the food that good. The changes this year seem to have added more choices while making some meals worse. There’s been a lot less lunch meat in the sandwiches, for example.”
On the other hand, Senior Josseline Bautista Barahona says, “I’ve tried the mac and cheese this year and really liked it. But for the most part… I prefer having food that I make at home.”
However, Castillo grants a different perspective. “There are some really good lunches like the nachos and curly fries. I love that they have packaged salads and sandwiches, too.”
It’s undeniable that the changes to the cafeteria allow students to embrace trying new things. And, by sitting with friends in this fresh cafe, the memories made can be endless.
