BVS Takes the Long Island Championship

On Sunday, November 8th, the Walt Whitman Wildcats took the Long Island Championship from the undefeated Hicksville Comets at SUNY Farmingdale.

Throughout the entire season, fans from Whitman have been coming to support our boys and Sunday may have been the biggest crowd yet. According to the MSG Varsity live stream, it was the “biggest crowd the young stadium has seen.” They claimed “every seat was filled” in the stadium and were somewhat shocked as fans stood on top of a nearby storage container to get a view. Announcements were even made prior to the game because fans were blocking staircases. The MSG Varsity announcers observed the game could have been held in a football stadium and would have still been filled.

Not only did fans show up, but they made a lot of noise. Chants such as, “We love Whitman, ”“I believe that we will win,” and “Start the buses” echoed throughout the stadium.

A pool of maroon led by the Matthew Merbitz fathead gave the Wildcats the extra edge they needed to destroy the higher ranked Comets 4-1.

At the end of the game, students rushed to the fence to celebrate with the boys. The student section chanted, “WE WANT STATES,” and it’s looking like they will be getting it.

The chills felt inside the crowd is something Whitman students will never forget. Many will travel two hours to see our boys play on Saturday at Middletown High School. Come out to support them. Go Wildcats!
