11/11 Republican GOP Debate

Tensions ran high at the latest Republican debate as Christie and Huckabee were moved off the main stage–with the candidates not thriving that soon may follow. Many Americans suspect Rand Paul is sliding down the totem pole and his presidential campaign may be in jeopardy. Cruz and Rubio stood out significantly with several shining moments likely to gain them supporters. Some of the important concepts discussed in the debate include minimum wage, immigration, and bailouts of banks.

During the debate, one of the issues discussed was raising the minimum wage. All three candidates asked about it strongly refuted the idea. Trump suggested that to stimulate the economy, wages need to be lowered.  Carson added to Trump’s statement by saying that the current minimum wage is limiting African Americans entry-level jobs. Rubio exclaimed that raising the minimum wage would be a disaster; if we were to raise the wage, machines would be more convenient workers than people, which would ultimately destroy our economy.

Another topic that got very heated was immigration. Trump got into an argument against Bush and Kasich over his immigration policy. Trump’s plan to deport 11 million illegal immigrants was named silly and petulant by Bush, and impossible and un-American by Kasich.

Another one of the most pressing issues was the bailouts of banks. The moderators asked Bush’s stance and he insisted that under his presidential term, there would be no financial crisis that evoked a massive bank failure. He revoked his statement, stating he could not promise that there would be no financial crisis but ultimately avoided the question.

Kasich said he would rescue the banks but rejected the idea of calling it a bailout, also sliding around the question. Cruz then interjected, exclaiming that neither candidate fully answered the question and said he would not rescue the banks with a bailout.

Many people thought Rubio won the debate, but others argued that Cruz was the prevailing winner.

Rubio gained approval Wednesday when he announced his strong stance on a powerful military. He encouraged spending money on the military and national security. Republicans People were pleased with this idea because they believe Rubio cares about keeping the communities of America safe.

One of Cruz’s other  shining moments was when he announced his spending plan to eliminate five government agencies. These included the IRS, the Commerce Department, the Energy Department, and the Department of Housing and Urban Development. This was a fundamental part of his spending plan and many people agree with his views.

While some candidates, are thriving others are clearly not. Rand Paul is in a precarious situation and may fall to the lower tier.

However, many people like to call Bush, Fiorina and Carson the losers of the debate.

Bush’s performance was poor, without many shining moments. Carson also did not stand out much this debate and did not have a great performance. Fiorina is quickly fading and did not deliver promising results last debate as well.

This debate accurately portrays survival of the fittest, as candidates that are struggling can be dropped to the lower tier. As we near the selection of the party’s nominee, the debates are becoming more and more stressful and fundamental for success. In this debate, some of our nation’s most pressing issues were argued between candidates so the viewers can make the most intelligent decision possible.
