2015 MLB Postseason Predictions

2015+MLB+Postseason+Predictions

The teams are set, so now let the postseason begin! The top ten teams from all of Major League Baseball are ready to battle it out to bring home this year’s World Series trophy. From best-to-worst record, this year’s contenders are the American League Kansas City Royals, Toronto Blue Jays, New York Yankees, Texas Rangers and Houston Astros. As for the National League, three of the best teams in all of baseball have a chance to take home a title. From best to worst records, there’s the St. Louis Cardinals, the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Chicago Cubs, the Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Mets. This year will be a very competitive postseason, and here’s how I predict it’ll all play out.

ALCS

Toronto Blue Jays vs. Kansas City Royals

This battle for the pennant may be a better series to watch than the World Series itself. The two best teams in the AL will fight for the chance to play in the World Series. If the Royals win, they’ll try to make up for their loss to the Giants in 2014. But if the Blue Jays win, the World Series will be played north of the border for the 1st time since 1993 when they won against the Phillies with Joe Carter’s iconic walkoff homerun off of Mitch Williams in game six. This series will be loaded with offense, and the bullpens for each team will be relied upon throughout what I believe will be a seven game series and it can honestly go either way, with the Royals defending their title, or the Blue Jays taking the nation and all of Canada by storm. But I’m going to have to side with the Royals. They stack up equally with the Blue Jays in every category, but have one tiny advantage: playoff experience. Other than David Price, Troy Tulowitzki, Josh Donaldson and Russell Martin, the Blue Jays have most of their players experiencing their first playoff run. But as mentioned before, this series will definitely go seven games, but I think the Royals will come through when the time comes and will win their second straight pennant and earn a trip to the 2015 World Series.

PREDICTED WINNER: ROYALS

NLCS

New York Mets vs. Chicago Cubs

My NLCS prediction features two resurgent teams that clicked on all cylinders to produce 90+ win seasons. I predict they will face each other to get into the World Series and play who, I believe, will be the Kansas City Royals. The NL Champ will be decided in six games, and I think the Mets will be the ones who move on to play the Royals in the World Series. Just like in the ALCS, one advantage sets these teams apart from going home or playing in the World Series, and that is pitching. The Cubs, as mentioned before, have an inconsistent bullpen and three solid starters. With the Mets, however, you can go down the line, one through four, and say that they have a legitimate chance to win a game with their young talent in de Grom, Syndergaard, Harvey, Matz and veterans Colon and Niese. The Mets also bolstered their bullpen in the second half by acquiring Tyler Clippard and Addison Reed, in addition to their hard-throwing closer, Jeurys Familia, who racked up 43 saves in 2015 and has an average fastball velocity of 97.36 mph, which is about six mph above the league average. And if you throw in their offense with Yoenis Cespedes, David Wright, Lucas Duda and Daniel Murphy, the Mets seem to have the upper hand in the series. This year, they will very likely play in their first World Series since 2000, when they lost in five games in the iconic Subway Series with the Yankees.

PREDICTED WINNER: METS

World Series

Kansas City Royals vs. New York Mets

My prediction for this year’s World Series looks quite probable. On one hand, you have the Royals looking to win their first title since 1985 and losing to Madison Bumgarner and the Giants in 2014. And on the other hand, the Mets would appear in their first Fall Classic since 2000 and haven’t won since Billy Buckner let Mookie Wilson’s feeble ground ball go through his legs in 1986. But skills-wise, you have an American League powerhouse in the Royals and a breakout National League team in the Mets. And just like in the previous rounds, the Royals have the experience to achieve what they missed out on last year and finally take home a title to Kansas City. Despite the solid New York pitching staff, the Kansas City bats will somehow find a way to scratch and claw for a few runs every game and give their bullpen a lead to hold and seal the deal. That being said, I think the Royals will come away with the title in five games and win it on the New York turf in Citi Field.

PREDICTED WINNER: KANSAS CITY ROYALS

The 2015 postseason will be a great one to watch. Every team has an equal shot to take home a trophy and a ring. But we’re just going to have to watch and see how it actually goes down in the books starting on Tuesday night. Any way you put it—this year’s postseason will be one to remember.
