Does the Law Always Lead to Justice?

Laws are rules that people  follow for the good of our society. Every law that we follow today was supposedly created to let people live peacefully and avoid as many problems as possible.

The question that many ask is, “Does law always lead to justice?” Well, justice is a very tangled concept. It can trick our minds and make us think what’s wrong is right and right is wrong.

In past years, our country, along with many others, have passed laws that didn’t always lead to justice. For example, in the early United States, European colonists bought people from Africa through triangular trade and enslaved them for manual labor. After the United States became independent, everyone gained freedom except African Americans. Only white people had the privilege to live free. As time passed, people fought segregation and discrimination laws and African Americans eventually gained their freedom.

Another example is the differences in education accessibility between boys and girls. In recent years, Pakistani law allowed both genders the right to receive an education but the gender roles assigned to boys and girls are still very distinct. Before this law was passed, girls could not attend certain some schools. If they did, they were persecuted and murdered. Therefore, only boys could receive an education. Malala Yousafzai is an education advocate in Pakistan who protested against the injustices in her country and almost died because of it. However, she never gave up and stood up for her rights. Laws are not always fair and that’s why people must fight for them to be fixed.

Laws certainly do not always lead to justice. Sometimes they take away joy and bring sorrow to our citizens. Today, there are many that need to be fixed. Some countries still censor self-expression or freedom of religion. We must remember people who filled their days with the glory of fighting unjust laws, like Martin Luther King Jr, Malala Yousafzai and Mother Teresa. They have expanded our choices and encouraged us to speak up for our rights. The understanding of law and justice delivers personal attention to every citizen. The law does not always lead to justice and the ones passed unfairly should be revoked for the good of everyone.
